Norwich Over the Water: Demolition and Change, Revised Edition (Back Cover)

Whatever became of centuries-old streets and historical buildings in the north part of Norwich’s city centre? The simple answer to that question is that they were bulldozed into rubble. It took place in the years leading up to the major redevelopment of the area, with the arrival of the original Anglia Square and the inner ring road around 1970.

Back in the 20th century, Norwich ‘Over the Water’ was considered ripe for large-scale clearance in pursuit of a brave new world of office blocks, supermarkets and fast-moving motor traffic. Now the area is up for another redevelopment, this time with tall residential blocks - little more than half-a-century after many of the original residents were moved out of their human-scale homes.

The 2023 revised edition of this book replaces the original 2020 edition and its supplement in a single volume. You can catch a last glimpse of lost or altered parts of old Norwich Over the Water, captured in more than 200 photographs, mostly from 1965-73, recording a time of unprecedented destruction and change.
